Some experiences don't go as planned. And that's exactly why they matter. They push you out of your comfort zone, test your instincts, and reveal who you really are.
This year, as VOYA Digital, our participation in Efes Ultra Trail was exactly that kind of experience. What started as an ultra trail run turned into something much deeper. It wasn't just a endurance run—it became a real test of adaptability, resilience, and teamwork.
This is not just a race story. This is a real Efes Ultra experience.
Everything started weeks before the race. Preparing for an ultra trail run is not just about running longer distances, it's about preparing mentally.
As VOYA, we approached the process with discipline. Training, conditioning, coordination… But our key mindset was this: we didn't prepare for ideal conditions—we prepared for uncertainty. Because in real life, nothing ever goes exactly as planned.
The atmosphere was powerful—Efes' historical backdrop, nature, and hundreds of runners. But the dominant factor this year was the weather. Heavy rain started early. The ground became tougher. Visibility dropped. And eventually, the start was delayed. The race hadn't started physically, but mentally, it already had.
The rain didn't stop. Conditions got harder. At that point, this was no longer just an ultra trail run—it became a test of uncertainty. Plans changed. Strategies shifted. And we had to rethink everything.
One of the most critical moments of the race came when the course had to be reassessed for safety reasons. Due to heavy rain and increasingly difficult terrain conditions, the health and safety of the runners became the top priority, and the originally planned 120 km course was officially concluded at 70 km.
While this decision may seem like a change from the outside, it was actually the right prioritization. Because in an endurance run, what truly matters is not just reaching the finish line, but doing so in a safe and sustainable way.
For us, this moment became a reminder that the value of the journey goes beyond the distance itself.
Conditions changed. The goal changed. But our mindset didn't.
We accepted the situation. We redefined the goal. And we kept moving together.
At VOYA, we don't only perform when everything is perfect. We perform better when things are uncertain.
Efes Ultra Trail was not just a race for us; it was a real-life test of how we handle uncertainty, adapt to changing conditions, and move forward as a team. This experience reminded us of a simple truth: in both life and work, nothing goes exactly as planned. But what truly matters is not the plan itself—it's how you respond when the plan changes.
The heavy rain, delayed start, and the decision to end the 120 km course at 70 km were all unexpected turning points. In those moments, we had two options: step back or redefine the situation and continue. We chose to adapt. Because true endurance is not only physical—it's about staying mentally flexible.
This experience made one thing very clear: adaptation is often more valuable than success. Success is usually measured under ideal conditions, but adaptation reveals itself in real-life challenges. And just as important, teamwork proved to be the most critical factor. Moving forward alone is possible, but moving forward together is sustainable.
In the end, the distance may have been shortened, but the experience was not. In fact, it became even more meaningful. Efes Ultra taught us not just how to run, but how to approach challenges: the process matters more than the outcome. And with the right mindset, progress is always possible—no matter the conditions.
